A cheaper option is a hand-held device that sucks air out of storage bags, but for the marginal savings, you’re better off with the automatic unit.

    As with conventional cooking, cutting foods into smaller pieces shortens cooking time. ✓ Before cooking, pierce with a fork any foods that have skins, like potatoes, hot dogs, and sausages.
