A lens with a minimum aperture setting of f8 is considered a slow lens. This is a more affordable lens but lacks usability in some shooting situations. If you’re like many shooters, you might have a general lens you use in most shooting situations. This is a nonprime lens that usually ranges from a wide angle to medium telephoto. A lens like this, perhaps a 24mm to 70mm, is a great “walking” lens because you have a range to work with when focusing on a subject. qxd 2:55 AM Page 20 than nonzooming lenses, because zoom lenses have smaller minimum apertures.
But with digital photography now being used for medical imaging, references for land surveyors, court evidence, and architectural renovations, its use in 3D is more common than ever. Perhaps at this point, you’ve decided, yes, you can use digital photography in your 3D work. But where do you begin? In the previous chapter, I briefly discussed megapixels, depth of field, and focal lengths—all basic principles you need to consider. But this book focuses more on the uses of digital photography in 3D, not on the mechanics.
12 shows an image taken with a 200mm Canon lens. Here, you can see the tennis player in focus, and the backdrop has a good amount of blur.
