Few professors will turn away anyone who truly wants to learn from them. In fact, if you show yourself to be seriously interested in a subject, you are more likely to be recruited than rejected. A major goal of many professors on every college and university campus is to train young people to be co-workers with them.

Tenure usually includes promotion to associate professor, but if a newly tenured professor should stop publishing and give his or her all to teaching, then he or she will never be promoted to full professor, and his or her salary will remain low compared with the Page 22 salaries of professors who publish a lot.
