She takes special advantage of the fact that some words have two or more meanings; and when they do not have two meanings, in the stricter sense, they have two or more sets of connotations, and Folly knows how to skip among these, cutting across lots and leaving heads in a whirl.

These modes of thought and feeling had already manifested themselves in England, to bear fruit especially in the teaching and preaching of John Colet, Dean of St. Paul's, whom both Erasmus and More admired. Thus as he rode from Italy and thought about England, it was not folly alone that engaged his mind, or his happy remembrance of the facetious Thomas More; it was also his deepest fears and hopes, his most serious thoughts, and greatest admirations, connected with religion and learning.
